How to build a reception floorplan from a venue PDF
A practical workflow for wedding planners: import the venue plan, set scale, place tables, review flow, and share a client-ready layout.
Step 1: Start with the venue document you already have
Ask the venue for a PDF, CAD export, or marked-up banquet diagram. Import that plan into your layout tool instead of sketching walls from memory. The goal is to design against the real room dimensions and permanent fixtures.
Step 2: Set scale before placing furniture
Scale the plan against a known dimension such as wall length, dance floor width, or column spacing. Accurate scale prevents surprises when you start placing tables, staging, and service aisles.

- Mark immovable elements like columns, bars, and kitchens
- Reserve space for dance floor, band, and service access
Step 3: Place seating and review movement paths
Work from the ceremony or head-table anchor outward. Check server paths, wheelchair access, and camera sightlines before sending anything to the client.
